Use this diagram as a guide to measuring the position of the
projector or stage light relative to the projected image. The
three measurements are along the edges of an imaginary box. One
side of the box is flat against the projection surface, with
one corner at an identifiable measuring point on the projected
image. The diagonally opposite corner of the box is at the projection
source. The height, width and length of the box describe the
spatial relationship betwen the projection source and the image
plane. The projection size measurement defines the scale of the
projected image.
Note that the relationship of the projection surface to the
actual space is irrelevant; the image may be projected on a drop,
on the floor, or on an angled wall. The three measurements and
the meaning of their directions (up, down, left, right, front
and back) relate to the projection plane - not the stage space.
If the projection plane is a screen hanging parallel to the proscenium
then up is up, left is stage right, and front is downstage.
